Spain Extends De la Fuente Contract Through 2032

Spain's Royal Spanish Football Federation extended head coach Luis de la Fuente's contract through 2032 after the board of directors unanimously approved it Monday and the Executive Committee ratified the agreement in Madrid. The deal is the longest tenure ever for a Spain head coach and covers Euro 2028, the 2030 World Cup co-hosted by Spain, Morocco and Portugal, and Euro 2032. De la Fuente, 65, took charge in 2022 after Luis Enrique left following a round-of-16 exit to Morocco and has since won the Nations League, Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup over Argentina, producing a record 38-game unbeaten run. Rafael Louzán said the federation seeks "a project built on stability and trust" and called De la Fuente "the most decorated coach in the national team's history," saying after 14 years "a long-term future at the federation is something Luis de la Fuente deserves." Reuters reported the renewal was agreed during the World Cup and includes a considerable pay rise per sources close to the federation. De la Fuente and Louzán were set to hold a press conference later Monday.
