Alcaraz Reaches U.S. Open Quarterfinals
Defending U.S. Open champion Carlos Alcaraz defeated 20th-seeded American Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals. The win was Alcaraz’s fourth competitive singles match since a wrist injury sidelined him for more than four months, and he has dropped only one set in New York while extending his Grand Slam winning streak to 18 matches. He will face either eighth-seeded American Ben Shelton or Stefanos Tsitsipas, against whom he has never lost at Tour level, as he pursues a third U.S. Open title. His aggressive all-court play and composure under pressure indicated he is nearing his best form.
