Illinois holds off UAB 42-23 behind a halftime Hail Mary

Illinois opened its season with a 42-23 home win over UAB despite being outgained and losing time of possession, relying on efficient big plays and a resilient defensive stand. Quarterback Katin Houser, making his Illini debut, completed 13 of 17 passes for 182 yards with three touchdown passes and no turnovers, while also adding a rushing score and connecting early with Collin Dixon.
