The Anaheim Ducks are expected to place veteran forward Chris Kreider on waivers for contract termination, with the move approved by Kreider. If he clears waivers, the 35-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent and is reportedly seeking a return to the Eastern Conference to be closer to his family. Anaheim explored trading Kreider but was unwilling to attach additional assets, or “sweeteners,” to facilitate a deal. The decision is driven by the Ducks’ salary-cap pressure after matching Leo Carlsson’s $18 million offer sheet and with a major extension for restricted free agent Cutter Gauthier still needed. Kreider recorded 22 goals and 50 points in 75 games last season and would become one of the most prominent free agents available.
