Ødegaard strikes late to give Arsenal Champions League win at Napoli
Arsenal opened their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Napoli in Naples, extending their perfect start to the season to five consecutive wins in all competitions. Captain Martin Ødegaard scored the decisive goal 15 minutes from time, firing a low effort in off the post after a swift passing move involving substitute Christos Tzolis. Arsenal dominated much of the match and created numerous chances, but Bukayo Saka, Mikel Merino, Piero Hincapié and Noni Madueke missed opportunities to add to the lead. Napoli offered limited attacking threat, with Kevin De Bruyne involved in their most promising moments, while Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya was rarely seriously tested. The win gave last season’s Champions League runners-up an encouraging start as they pursued another deep run in the competition.
