Josh Jacobs Pleads No Contest to Battery Charge, Faces NFL Review

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property stemming from a May incident involving his girlfriend. The court imposed five conditions: no further criminal acts, no contact with the victim, supervision, counseling and restitution; the Brown County district attorney said he will not seek jail time. Jacobs was placed on the NFL’s Commissioner’s Exempt List on Aug. 30 and cannot practice or play while the league reviews the case, although he continues to be paid. The NFL has not announced a suspension, but its personal-conduct policy and comparable cases could result in a multigame ban, with estimates ranging from two to six games. His absence creates uncertainty at running back as Green Bay prepares to begin the season.
