Penn State Wins 27-9 in Campbell’s Road Debut

Penn State opened Matt Campbell’s tenure with a 45-0 shutout of Marshall, then defeated Temple 27-9 in Campbell’s first road game as the Nittany Lions’ coach. Quarterback Rocco Becht threw four touchdown passes against Marshall, while the defense recorded a dominant performance led by Tony Rojas and Caleb Bacon. Against Temple, Rojas again led the team with seven tackles, intercepted a pass and helped the defense recover after early tackling problems. Tight end Benjamin Brahmer was a standout in Philadelphia, catching five passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns. The Temple game tested Penn State’s ability to handle a noon road kickoff and a physical opponent, an emphasis Campbell had identified before the matchup.
