Pochettino says Tottenham should receive 2016-17 Premier League title
Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham should be retrospectively awarded the 2016-17 Premier League title after Chelsea admitted 74 breaches of Football Association financial regulations during the Roman Abramovich era. Chelsea, who beat Spurs by seven points under Antonio Conte, were fined £10 million and given a suspended two-window transfer ban after the breaches involved secret payments to unregistered agents and intermediaries. Pochettino argues that financial penalties alone do not adequately address the competitive advantage Chelsea may have gained and that sporting integrity requires the title to be reassigned to the runner-up. He acknowledged Chelsea’s performance and Conte’s management while insisting that clubs must compete under the same rules. Neither the Premier League nor the FA has announced any review of the 2016-17 title or plans to change the official record.
