Seahawks QB Darnold Leaves Opener After Sack

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold was ruled out for the remainder of Wednesday’s season opener against the New England Patriots after suffering a right-hip injury on a sack during Seattle’s first offensive drive. Darnold limped to the sideline, was evaluated in the medical tent and locker room, and underwent X-rays; he completed one of two passes for 13 yards before leaving. Drew Lock took over at quarterback, with Jalen Milroe serving as the emergency option. Darnold’s availability for Seattle’s next game against Arizona on Sept. 20 remained uncertain. The injury came after Darnold’s Pro Bowl season, when he threw for 4,048 yards and 25 touchdowns while leading Seattle to a Super Bowl title.
