Vanderbilt Names Freshman Jared Curtis Starting Quarterback

Vanderbilt has named true freshman Jared Curtis its starting quarterback for Week 3 against NC State after he outperformed fourth-year quarterback Blaze Berlowitz in the Commodores’ 35-26 win over Delaware. Berlowitz won the preseason competition and started the first two games, but struggled to move the offense and threw for just 178 yards through two weeks. Curtis entered early against Delaware and finished 14-of-22 for 210 yards and a touchdown, while adding two rushing touchdowns to lead Vanderbilt’s scoring drives. The five-star Nashville-area recruit, who flipped from Georgia to Vanderbilt, is the highest-ranked recruit in program history. Vanderbilt hosts 1-1 NC State on Saturday in its toughest nonconference test.
