Valencia Sack Corberán, Gourlay Amid Rebuild

Valencia have dismissed manager Carlos Corberán and football chief executive Ron Gourlay after taking one point from their opening five LaLiga matches, leaving the club bottom of the table. Corberán’s departure comes two months after his contract was extended to 2028 and follows four consecutive league defeats, including losses to Barcelona and Sevilla. The club has also terminated the contracts of four members of Gourlay’s staff and Corberán’s coaching team. Reserve-team coach Óscar Sánchez will take interim charge ahead of Tuesday’s match against Alavés. Valencia credited Corberán with steering the club away from relegation after taking over in December 2024 and finishing ninth last season, praising his professionalism across 72 matches, while saying the dismissals will begin a new phase for its sporting structure and football operations. Potential permanent replacements include Marcelino, Ernesto Valverde, José Luis Mendilibar and Thiago Motta.
