Islanders Name Horvat Captain After Lee Departure
The New York Islanders named Bo Horvat their 16th captain, replacing Anders Lee, who left in free agency to sign with the Utah Mammoth. Horvat, 31, previously captained the Vancouver Canucks and brings extensive leadership experience, including time as an alternate captain under Lee in New York. He led the Islanders with 31 goals and recorded 57 points in 68 games last season, and has totaled 99 goals and 198 points in 260 games since joining the team in 2023. Across 881 NHL regular-season games, Horvat has 300 goals and 618 points, along with 34 playoff appearances. His selection gives the Islanders an experienced captain while allowing 19-year-old star defenseman Matthew Schaefer to develop without being burdened by the role.
