Messi Set for Argentina Farewell Against Benin
Lionel Messi has been called up by Argentina for a farewell appearance against Benin on October 6 at Buenos Aires’ Monumental Stadium, weeks after announcing his retirement from international football. AFA president Claudio Tapia said the match will give Argentina’s captain the farewell he deserves, with the 2022 World Cup-winning squad expected to attend. Argentina is also scheduled to face Bolivia on September 30 and Burkina Faso on October 3, while Rodrigo De Paul and Giovani Lo Celso are reportedly set to join Messi only for the final match. Messi will leave international football as Argentina’s record appearance holder with 207 caps and leading scorer with 125 goals, having won the 2022 World Cup and Copa América titles in 2021 and 2024.
