Illinois Rout Southern Illinois 48-10

Illinois defeated Southern Illinois 48-10 in Champaign, improving to 2-1 while limiting the Salukis to 257 total yards and just 29 rushing yards. Quarterback Katin Houser completed 23 of 29 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns, both to Collin Dixon, who finished with eight catches for 131 yards and set a single-season program record with seven touchdown receptions at Gies Memorial Stadium. Aidan Laughery added a 77-yard touchdown run among his 93 rushing yards on four carries, and Matthew Bailey returned an interception 88 yards for another score. The victory also showed defensive improvement after Illinois struggled with tackling in its loss to Duke, though the team’s progress will be tested next week in its Big Ten opener at No. 6 Ohio State.
