13-year-old Yu Zidi leads Asian Games butterfly heats

Thirteen-year-old Yu Zidi won the women's 200-meter butterfly at the Asian Games in 2:05.08, a time race reports called a Games record. Last year she became the youngest swimming world championships medallist ever with relay bronze at 12; she also finished fourth in three individual worlds races and beat Regan Smith in March. After the medal ceremony she said the swim "was only so-so," that she had improved 0.9 seconds, and that she still needs to lower her head earlier, reach farther forward, and improve her leg movement. Olympic champion Pan Zhanle edged Kim Young-beom by 0.04 seconds in the men's 100 freestyle, with Hwang Sun-woo third. Pan said he felt he would lose in the last metre—"It's magic, maybe"—and called the outing good for his training. Kim said a perfect race to 75m made second "such a waste." Japan's Tomoyuki Matsushita won the 200 IM on a late overtake. Hong Kong's women, including Siobhan Haughey, took 4x100 freestyle silver.
