Reusser Retains World Time-Trial Title in Montreal
Marlen Reusser of Switzerland defended her women’s elite time-trial world title in Montreal, winning the 39.2-kilometer race in 50:24 on her 35th birthday. Zoe Bäckstedt of Great Britain led at the first two time checks but faded in the closing section, earning an impressive silver medal on her elite world-championship debut, about 40 seconds behind Reusser. Germany’s Franziska Koch took bronze, continuing a standout season that included victory at Paris-Roubaix. Reusser also caught Dutch favorite Demi Vollering during the race, leaving Vollering eighth and without a medal.
