The San Francisco 49ers are signing veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks to their practice squad, with plans to help him learn the offense before potentially activating him for games. The move adds depth after Demarcus Robinson suffered a high-ankle sprain and Mike Evans is dealing with a hip injury, while rookie De’Zhaun Stribling remains on injured reserve. Cooks, a former first-round pick entering his 13th NFL season, has also played for the Saints, Patriots, Rams, Texans, Cowboys and Bills. He is 189 receiving yards short of becoming the 58th player in NFL history to reach 10,000 career yards.
