Giants QB Jaxson Dart Faces Possible Season-Ending Knee Surgery

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart injured his left knee on the seventh play of Monday's 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. On third-and-8 of the first drive, Byron Young hit him and Josaiah Stewart undercut his legs. Dart walked gingerly to the sideline and medical tent, then to the locker room, and was ruled out shortly after halftime after going 3-of-5 for 20 yards. Initial evaluations pointed to a sprain of the MCL, a knee ligament, expected to sideline him two to four weeks. A Tuesday MRI found the injury more severe than anticipated. Mike Garafolo reported sources saying Dart is out an extended period, possibly the season, with season-ending surgery possible. Coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday evaluations are ongoing, no final decisions have been made, and the team has learned a lot more. After the game he had declined to confirm MCL sprain reports and said the Giants avoided a devastating outcome. Jameis Winston replaced Dart, completing 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and an interception. The Giants have no other quarterback on the active roster and play the Tennessee Titans next. Dart opened with 230 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 win over Dallas.
