MLB Wild Card Series Opens After Tropicana Finale
Severe weather moved the Cubs–Red Sox regular-season finale from Fenway Park to Tropicana Field, with Boston as the home team and Rays staff handling game-day operations. Alex Bregman hit two home runs and collected four hits in the game. The best-of-three Wild Card Series has since opened: the Cubs kept Aaron Civale but left Edward Cabrera and Caleb Thielbar off their roster, and Matthew Boyd is set to start Game 1 against San Diego; Kevin Gausman and Shota Imanaga are also planned for the series, though their roles are uncertain. The Yankees will be without injured Aaron Judge but have reinstated Giancarlo Stanton as a pinch-hitting option, while Boston added Garrett Crochet, expected to pitch from the bullpen. Houston–Chicago and Atlanta–Philadelphia are also underway, and Division Series play is scheduled to begin Oct. 3, with the World Series slated for Oct. 23.
