Eriksen, Wolfsburg End Contract After Collapse

Christian Eriksen and VfL Wolfsburg have mutually agreed to terminate the midfielder’s contract early, ending his one-season spell at the club, which was scheduled to run through June 2027. The decision came three months after Eriksen collapsed during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine when his implanted cardioverter-defibrillator delivered a shock; he has not played since and previously suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020. Eriksen said he wants to be closer to his family in Denmark, where he began an individual rehabilitation program, but has not indicated whether he will continue playing. He made 34 appearances for Wolfsburg, scoring three goals and providing 10 assists, while the club was relegated from the Bundesliga. Wolfsburg said it granted Eriksen’s request and praised his impact on teammates, staff and supporters.
