Silva Tackle Leaves Ødegaard Limping in Portugal-Norway
Portugal defeated Norway 2-1 in the UEFA Nations League with goals from Joao Felix and Goncalo Ramos either side of Erling Haaland's equaliser; Cristiano Ronaldo stayed on the bench. In stoppage time, after Martin Odegaard had played the ball away, Bernardo Silva kicked him and sent him down, receiving a yellow card. Odegaard confronted Silva and shouted a two-word obscenity. Odegaard told reporters: "It doesn't belong on a football field. It's a shame that people do that." He called it head fog, said Silva kicked him long after the ball, and added he received no apology. Silva, after first walking away from mixed-zone reporters, said "It's football, my friend." Odegaard sat on the grass for treatment, stayed in the centre circle unable to join a late corner, limped to the team bus, and reported an ankle knock that "probably won't be good tonight." Leo Ostigard said the challenge was very late and very ugly and could well be red; Simen Stamso Moller called Silva a dirty player and the foul completely unnecessary and ugly. Outlets differ on whether the match was in Lisbon or at Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo. Norway next face Wales then Portugal again; Silva has joined Real Madrid; Odegaard missed 30 games with seven injuries last season.
