White Sox Sweep Astros to Reach Division Series

The 2026 MLB postseason opened with Atlanta rallying past Philadelphia, as Austin Riley hit a two-out, two-run homer in the eighth for a Braves win. The Chicago White Sox swept the Houston Astros in their best-of-three AL Wild Card Series, winning Game 1, 6-3, and Game 2, 7-3. Sam Antonacci drove in two runs and Colson Montgomery homered in the opener, while rookie Hagen Smith pitched three scoreless innings; in Game 2, Chicago chased Astros ace Hunter Brown in the first and pulled away on Chase Meidroth’s three-run homer in the sixth. The sweep marked a turnaround for a team coming off three consecutive 100-loss seasons and its first playoff-series win since 2005. Houston, which reached the postseason at 81-81, was eliminated at home, and Chicago advanced to face the Cleveland Guardians in the Division Series.
