Fever Defeat Aces in Game 2 After Wilson Fan Confrontation
The Indiana Fever beat the Las Vegas Aces 99-89 in Game 2 of their first-round series, tying it 1-1 after Las Vegas took Game 1. Caitlin Clark finished with 27 points, 15 assists and seven rebounds and became the first player in league history with a points-assists double-double in the first half of a playoff game. Kelsey Mitchell scored 26. A'ja Wilson had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Aces; Jackie Young scored 31. With 4:10 left in the fourth and Indiana leading 90-79, Wilson and Sophie Cunningham got tangled on a screen; Cunningham was called for a foul. Wilson then reacted to a male fan a few rows back at the baseline, walked into the spectator section pointing and gesturing, and was pulled away by coaches, teammates and security. She received a technical foul but was not ejected. Security escorted the fan to another section. Wilson said the fan stepped toward her and pointed, calling that unacceptable regardless of words or tone, and apologized to her team for the technical. The Fever said security spoke with the fan and witnesses, found no Fan Code of Conduct violation, allowed the fan back, and considered the matter closed. Becky Hammon said she had never seen Wilson react like that. Game 3 is in Las Vegas.
