Two Runners Die at Half Marathons in Cardiff, Milwaukee
Two runners died after medical emergencies during half marathons on Sunday. In Milwaukee, 36-year-old Waukesha resident John Meise collapsed on the Hoan Bridge during the Lakefront half marathon and later died at Froedtert Hospital; the medical examiner said he had no known medical history. In Cardiff, organizers confirmed a participant died after the race but withheld the person’s identity and other details at the family’s request, while thanking event and hospital medical teams for their response. About 6,000 people took part in Milwaukee’s marathon weekend, and roughly 30,000 ran Cardiff’s 13.1-mile course.
