Rodgers Backs Brandon Smith for Steelers Role

Aaron Rodgers has set demanding preparation standards for Pittsburgh’s young receivers, including quizzing rookie Germie Bernard on defensive schemes, players and the game plan. The Steelers have used multi-tight-end formations, giving Rodgers options including Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth, alongside DK Metcalf and Jaylen Warren. With several wide receivers injured ahead of Week 6, Rodgers said the team expected to rely on in-house options Brandon Smith, Brandon Johnson and Isaiah Hodgins rather than immediately bring in outside help. Smith, a former Jets teammate of Rodgers, was praised as smart and talented and was expected to take on a larger role.
