SEC Reportedly Weighs One-Year Transfer Sit-Out Rule
The SEC is reportedly weighing a return to a rule requiring athletes who transfer between conference schools to sit out a season, reversing its 2021 policy allowing immediate eligibility for intraconference transfers. League presidents are expected to discuss the proposal next week. LSU coach Lane Kiffin called the idea a terrible decision, arguing it could push players to the Big Ten, ACC or Big 12 rather than keep talent in the SEC. Attorney Tom Mars warned the policy could expose the league to a federal lawsuit as transfer rules remain legally unsettled. Supporters seek to curb rival schools’ recruitment of one another’s players, but the proposal’s final form and legal viability remain uncertain.
