Avalanche Beat Stars After MacKinnon-Hintz Fight

The Colorado Avalanche beat the Dallas Stars 3-2 Tuesday after tensions boiled over in a second-period fight between Nathan MacKinnon and Roope Hintz. The two exchanged punches after MacKinnon cross-checked Hintz; MacKinnon left with a bleeding nose that required stitches, and Hintz iced his injured knuckles in the penalty box. Both received five-minute fighting penalties and returned to the game. Hintz missed the end of last season and the playoffs with a torn hamstring after a collision involving MacKinnon; the available account does not establish that the fight caused the injury or motivated Tuesday’s confrontation.
