Bowman wins third straight Detroit Marathon, breaks record

Ferndale’s Andy Bowman won the Detroit Free Press Marathon for the third consecutive year, setting a course record that had stood since 1980. Reports differ slightly on his finishing time, giving it as 2:12:11 or 2:12:15. Lake Orion’s Allison Sherman won the women’s marathon in about 2:43:30, her first victory in the event. The 49th race also crowned half-marathon winners JP Flavin and Megan O’Neil, while drawing thousands of runners and support from volunteers and families.
