Texas Backup QB KJ Lacey's Practice Reps Remain Undecided Before Ole Miss

Texas has fallen to 4-2 after consecutive 27-24 losses to Oklahoma and Florida, putting its playoff hopes under pressure. Arch Manning remains the starter, though costly turnovers—including a late fumble against Florida—and a season line of 1,295 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions have intensified scrutiny; he has completed 63.9% of his passes. Reports say redshirt freshman backup KJ Lacey Jr. could receive more first-team practice reps before Saturday’s game against No. 7 Ole Miss, but coach Steve Sarkisian disputed one report of an increase and said the week’s practices would determine the arrangement. Lacey has completed eight of nine career passes for 70 yards. Texas is also looking to address poor production on the ground as it prepares to face Ole Miss.
