Bavuma’s 179 Leads South Africa Fightback

Temba Bavuma’s career-best 179 powered South Africa to 425 for nine declared on day three of the second Test against Australia in Gqeberha, after the hosts had fallen to 110 for six. He shared a 132-run seventh-wicket stand with Marco Jansen, who scored 85, then added a record 182 runs for the eighth wicket with Simon Harmer, who made 82. Kagiso Rabada dismissed Nic Maddinson in the first over of Australia’s reply, and the visitors ended the day at three for one. The fightback revived South Africa after their heavy first-Test defeat and kept them in contention to level the three-Test series.
