Panthers’ Markstrom Out, Black Makes NHL Debut

Florida Panthers goaltender Jacob Markstrom is expected to miss 10 to 14 days after being struck by a puck in practice; he had also missed two games the previous week with an undisclosed injury. Akira Schmid is expected to handle most of the starts, while Cooper Black was recalled from the AHL and made his NHL debut in a 4-0 loss to Pittsburgh, stopping 17 of 20 shots before an empty-net goal. At 6-foot-9, Black became the tallest goalie in NHL history and could receive further starts while Markstrom recovers. The Panthers began a four-game road trip in Ottawa.
