SEC Rules RJ Luis Ineligible at LSU
Former St. John’s star RJ Luis will not be eligible to play for LSU in the 2026–27 season after the SEC denied his request for clearance, citing its rule barring players who signed professional contracts from returning to conference basketball. Luis, the 2025 Big East Player of the Year, went undrafted in the NBA before signing contracts with the Utah Jazz and the Boston Celtics’ G League affiliate; he had also received a preliminary court injunction. LSU coach Will Wade is ending the effort to make Luis eligible, including the prospect of further legal action. The decision removes a potential leading scorer from LSU’s roster, while forward Saliou Niang has been ruled eligible for the season.
