Timberwolves reach unusual $40M extension with Jaden McDaniels

The Minnesota Timberwolves agreed to a one-year, $40 million extension with forward Jaden McDaniels, keeping him under contract through the 2029-30 season and bringing his remaining deal to four years and $124 million. The unusual extension was reached with three seasons left on his non-max contract, adding guaranteed money while preserving the possibility of negotiating another deal as early as 2028. A key part of Minnesota’s defense and an All-Defense selection, McDaniels is coming off a career-best season, averaging 14.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 41.2% from three-point range.
