Wembanyama Shoots 1-for-13 in Season Opener

Victor Wembanyama opened the 2026–27 season with a difficult shooting night as the San Antonio Spurs lost 116–104 to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He made 1 of 13 field-goal attempts, missed all four 3-pointers, and finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks. The performance set an unwanted mark for the worst season-opening field-goal showing by a player coming off an All-NBA First Team selection. Thunder rookie Aday Mara helped disrupt Wembanyama, who said he needs to stop hesitating and play with the enjoyment that brings out his best. The poor shooting contrasted with Wembanyama’s strong performances against Oklahoma City last season, and coverage cautioned against drawing broad conclusions from one game.
