Duke Beats Virginia 19-16 on Late Touchdown

Duke defeated Virginia 19-16 in Charlottesville, snapping a two-game losing streak and improving to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in ACC play. With 1:14 remaining, running back Nate Sheppard threw a 28-yard touchdown to freshman Brody Keefe on a backward pass from quarterback Walker Eget, giving Duke the lead; it was Sheppard’s first career pass. Virginia had led 16-13 after a field goal with three minutes remaining, and although Duke missed the extra point, Patrick Smith-Young intercepted Beau Pribula on Virginia’s final drive to secure the win. The result kept Duke’s ACC title hopes alive, while Virginia fell to 4-4 and lost at home for the first time this season.
