Former Rangers Star Ron Duguay Dies at 69

Ron Duguay, the former New York Rangers star forward, has died at 69 after a battle with colon cancer, his family and the Rangers said. Drafted 13th overall in 1977, he played 12 NHL seasons, spending much of his career with the Rangers and also playing for the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings. Duguay scored 340 points in two stints with New York, helped the team reach the 1979 Stanley Cup Final and earned an All-Star selection after scoring a career-high 40 goals in 1981–82. Known for his flowing hair and lively New York social life, he became a pop-culture figure through a Sasson jeans commercial with Rangers teammates and an appearance on the cover of Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine. Duguay was also known publicly for his relationship with Sarah Palin, who paid tribute to him after his death.
