Antonelli Wins Austin Grand Prix, Closes on Title
Kimi Antonelli won the United States Grand Prix in Austin from pole, taking his ninth victory of the season and finishing about 13 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc; Max Verstappen was third. Antonelli leads Mercedes teammate George Russell by 123 points and Lewis Hamilton by 124, with five races remaining. Russell finished eighth and Hamilton fourth, leaving the championship mathematically undecided, but Antonelli can clinch it in Mexico City next weekend by finishing ninth or higher. If he wins the title, he will be Formula One’s youngest champion and Italy’s first since 1953. Mercedes said the result confirmed that its recently improved car package was working.
