Atkinson Depressed After James Chooses 76ers
LeBron James said he seriously considered returning to Cleveland before choosing the Philadelphia 76ers, signing a two-year, $8 million deal to pursue another championship. Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson said Cleveland expected to land James and that missing out left him feeling depressed for a day or two, though he praised the team for quickly pivoting to acquire Peyton Watson. James’s first game against Cleveland as a Sixer ended in a 114-106 Philadelphia win after the Cavaliers built a 29-point lead; James recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds. Atkinson’s comments drew teasing and criticism from some fans online.
