Bayern Coach Kompany Taken to Hospital Friday

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany was taken by ambulance to a Munich hospital on Friday after reportedly collapsing at the club’s training ground. Bayern had not issued an official statement, and the reason for the emergency transport, Kompany’s condition and any effect on his availability for Bayern’s next match remained unconfirmed. He had been battling a severe viral infection, which reportedly aggravated old scar tissue and caused pain and difficulty moving. After missing training and media duties earlier in the week, he returned to the touchline for Wednesday’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Arsenal and later acknowledged he had pushed himself despite being ill.
