Santana Suspended, Pulled From Breeders’ Cup
Jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. was arrested in Louisville on Oct. 26 and charged with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree domestic-violence assault after his girlfriend alleged he grabbed her by the throat and pushed her into kitchen cabinets during two arguments; the allegations have not been proven in court. Santana pleaded not guilty, was released on a $25,000 bond with a no-contact order, and is due back in court Nov. 4. Kentucky racing regulators suspended his licence pending the criminal case, removing him from his three scheduled Breeders’ Cup mounts at Keeneland. Rafael Bejarano was named to replace him on Hymn.
