Milan Clubs Unveil 71,500-Seat San Siro Replacement Plans
AC Milan and Inter Milan unveiled plans for Generali Stadium, a 71,500-seat arena designed by Foster + Partners and Manica to replace the clubs’ shared San Siro home near its current site. The €1.2 billion project is expected to begin construction in 2028 and open around the 2031–32 season, potentially in time for Euro 2032; the existing stadium is expected to be largely demolished. The oval design features steep stands intended to bring supporters close to the pitch, and the clubs aim to preserve San Siro’s atmosphere while creating a venue for football, other sports and concerts. Generali secured the naming rights in a reported €650 million deal over 20 years. The plans prompted protests from Inter supporters opposing the demolition of the historic ground.
