Purdue, Matt Painter Agree on Extension Through 2030-31
Purdue has agreed to extend and amend men’s basketball coach Matt Painter’s contract through the 2030-31 season, pending approval by the university’s Board of Trustees. The agreement includes increased annual compensation and enhanced retention and performance bonuses; ESPN reports his salary will rise from $5.2 million to $7 million for 2026-27, with annual increases thereafter, while Purdue says full financial details will follow board approval. Painter has 501 wins in 21 seasons and is closing in on mentor Gene Keady’s school record of 512. He has led Purdue to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2024 Final Four, and the team has made 11 consecutive tournaments.
