Red Wings Suspend Larkin Amid Trade Standoff

Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin told the team he would stop playing while awaiting a trade, and the club suspended him without pay on Oct. 29. Interim general manager Shawn Horcoff said Detroit will continue pursuing a trade, which requires Larkin’s approval and must serve the team’s long-term interests; no deal has been announced. The standoff follows Larkin’s offseason trade request and loss of the captaincy, and he was held out of a game against Chicago as the dispute escalated. Larkin, 30, has five years remaining on his contract and has been a leading scorer for Detroit, which is last in its division and has missed the playoffs for a decade. His agent, Pat Brisson, said Larkin had “had enough of the situation” and described him as professional and cooperative.
