Saints Offense Falters, Defense Allows NFL-High Points

The New Orleans Saints entered their bye at 2-5 after an uneven offense and a sharp defensive decline undermined preseason expectations. The offense ranks near the bottom of the league in rushing, total offense and giveaways, while scoring less under coach and play-caller Kellen Moore than in previous seasons; the defense, which ranked in the top 10 in 2025, is allowing 27.7 points and 372.7 yards per game. Quarterback Tyler Shough has thrown for 1,721 yards and 13 touchdowns with a 67% completion rate, receiver Chris Olave has produced strongly, and edge rusher Chase Young has seven sacks. The Saints need to improve execution and turn those individual contributions into consistent team results.
