Alexander Zverev is set to become the ATP men’s world No. 1 on Monday after beating Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 7-5 to reach the Vienna Open quarterfinals and secure enough points to overtake Jannik Sinner. The new account says Zverev is already assured of finishing the season atop the rankings, becoming the 30th man to reach No. 1 and the oldest first-time leader since John Newcombe in 1974. It attributes the opening to Sinner’s late-season absence with injury.
