Tigers acquire Taiwanese infielder Cheng from Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox traded infielder Tsung-Che Cheng to the Detroit Tigers for cash considerations, where he could eventually join fellow Taiwanese infielder Hao-Yu Lee in Detroit’s middle infield. Cheng, 25, appeared in 14 games for Boston in 2026, batting .256, and made several notable defensive plays during the team’s 15-game winning streak; he spent most of the season with Triple-A Worcester. The move is part of Boston’s effort to open room on its 40-man roster, with several injured players due to return to it.
