Valkyries Win First WNBA Title in Game 7
The Atlanta Dream fell 68-63 to the Golden State Valkyries in Game 7 of the WNBA Finals, finishing one win short as Golden State claimed its first championship. Atlanta had led with 16 minutes remaining and tied the game three times in the fourth quarter, but could not close it out. Angel Reese had eight points and 12 rebounds in the finale after an impactful first season in Atlanta, in which she was named Defensive Player of the Year; she said the loss was tough but vowed the Dream would return. Reese credited her teammates with helping her grow and said the team’s selflessness gives her confidence in its championship potential. Atlanta also has a core to build on, with six of its seven leading playoff-minute players under contract for next season.
