LSU-Alabama Annual Series to Pause in 2027

Alabama and LSU are set to meet Saturday in Baton Rouge in their 63rd consecutive season playing one another, but the rivalry will pause in 2027 because the SEC’s new nine-game schedule did not designate them as annual opponents. Both teams enter the matchup at 6-2, with the result potentially affecting their College Football Playoff prospects. LSU coach Lane Kiffin lamented the end of the annual tradition, saying it reflects college football’s focus on money. The series is scheduled to resume in 2028, with the teams set to meet at least every other year under the rotating format.
