Saints Release Carlson, Claim Estime Off Waivers

The New Orleans Saints released kicker Daniel Carlson and claimed running back Audric Estime off waivers Tuesday. Carlson made 8 of 12 field-goal attempts in seven games, missing all four attempts from 50 yards or longer, and also missed two extra points. His departure could give practice-squad kicker Charlie Smyth a chance to take over, though the Saints had not finalized their plans. Estime returns to New Orleans after earlier stints with the Saints, Vikings and Browns; he had nine carries for 19 yards and a touchdown in his lone game with Cleveland.
