Mets Add Washington, Ellis in Coaching Overhaul
The Mets are overhauling their coaching staff, hiring Johnny Washington as co-hitting coach alongside Troy Snitker and former major-league catcher A.J. Ellis as a major-league strategy coordinator. Washington was Atlanta’s minor-league hitting coordinator in 2026 and previously worked with manager Andy Green in San Diego. Ellis, an 11-year MLB veteran best known for his time with the Dodgers, is expected to contribute to pitching game plans and pitch-calling. The Mets also promoted longtime minor-league coach Mariano Duncan and are expected to fill at least one more major-league coaching position. The moves follow a difficult 2026 season and the departure of hitting director Jeff Albert.
